Park Pride

Yesterday, the schooled kids had most of the day off.  So they were set free in the community to do whatever.  Thankfully we had our homeschool park day up north.  So we weren't home until about 4:30pm.  While we were gone, the kids vandalized (read, took apart) the play structure at our park.  When we got home, one whole side panel was hanging down.  The kids had completely taken the screws out of the thing and lost them.  Connor was concerned when he saw the damage and told Scott, our neighbor.  He and Maureen went out to look at it and decided that it would take a bit more tools and know-how to put it back together, so they came to get Dave.  After about an hour of bending the panel back to it's original position, finding screws, getting tools, it is usable again.  Hopefully the park workers will fix it completely on Monday.  While Dave was working on the structure, our other neighbor, Shelly came to the park and gave the kids an education about park etiquette.

I think for our next block party we will make the theme "park pride" or something to that effect.  I am going to have to find somebody who can speak to the kids AND parents about the importance of keeping our park nice and clean.  I think if the parents are on board, the kids will be more likely to follow along.  I know I am out at the park daily picking up trash left by the kids, picking up limbs that were pulled off the trees.  All of this saddens me to no end.  If there is no pride in their park, our park will end up a trash dump.  We do NOT want that!

Today my little ladybug doesn't feel so good.  She and I laid in bed all day and watched the inauguration.  She slept off and on the whole day.  I hope this doesn't last long.  I hate it when my little ones don't feel good.

Sloane's friend, Treyson gave this Halloween costume to her.  So she wanted to wear it home.  Looks like it fits!!

Today we met with the Teens N Tweens of Indigo Home Learners at The Mayo's house to decorate pillow cases for the homeless.  Indigo is having a Valentine's Day party the first Friday in February.  and we will fill the pillow cases with assorted items the homeless need.  Then a representative from the group will deliver the filled cases to a shelter in Downtown Phoenix.  This is something we can feel proud of.

While the kids were working on the cases, Sloane, Dott and some of the smaller kids were having fun on the trampoline.  Check out Dott's static.

Quinn was doing some GREAT flips.

Sloane got a new hat and gloves at Ross today.  She is so proud of them.  She wears them everywhere!

She started dancing around and I caught this move.  I just love it.

Quinn picked out some blue hairspray at Sally's today.  It is a great color on him.

He wanted me to take this picture of him dropping in on the ramp to show his cousin, Zane.

Dave took two weeks off work during the Christmas holiday season.  Here is his beard after that two weeks.  He went in to shave it off right after the pictures was taken.  He said it was too itchy.

The Great Ditch

Ten of the kids from our neighborhood wanted to go adventure around the community.  So I hopped into the golf cart and followed them around.  These pictures are at The Great Ditch.  The first one, the kids are hiking through The Great Ditch.  The last two are on the boulders on the far side of The Great Ditch.  It is in a part of the community that has yet to be built up.  The kids had such a fun time hiking around, following around in single file.  The big kids took care of the little kids.  It was really fun to watch.

New Year's motorcycles

Quinn got a new quad last night.  So we went out today to try it out.  Sloane is now riding Quinn's old quad.  And Connor has grown out of his motorcycle, as well.  We are still in the process of finding him a bike that is within our budget.  Oh yea, and Connor has also grown out of his boots and helmet.  This is NOT a cheap sport!

Connor wanted to try out Quinn's quad.  But, after the ride, he says he's still a motorcycle guy.  He doesn't want to switch.
Sloane is our little speed demon.  She goes FULL OUT the entire time she is on that thing.
And she loves it!!
